10 Vigilantes Killed in Kwapre Attack, Boko Haram Suspected

Kwapre – Suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked the Kwapre community again on Saturday evening, April 26, 2025. Kwapre is located in the Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State. Reports indicate the attackers arrived in large numbers and were heavily armed. They overwhelmed the local vigilante group defending the area. Tragically, 10 vigilantes lost their lives in the assault. Several others suffered serious injuries. “We lost 10 brave men, and others are fighting for their lives at FMC Hong,” stated Hyella Anthony, a former local councillor. The injured were quickly transported to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Hong for emergency medical treatment.

Community Endures Repeated Assaults

This violent incident marks the fifth attack on Kwapre and its surrounding villages within only two weeks, according to community leaders. The area has faced persistent violence recently. Boko Haram elements appear to be targeting the lightly armed local guards. Anthony explained, “These gunmen came in large numbers, heavily armed, and overpowered our vigilantes who were trying to protect the village.” His words highlight the difficulty villagers face defending their homes against a better-equipped force.

Leaders Plead for Action Amid Rising Fear

Simon Yakubu, the District Head of Dugwaba, expressed deep sorrow over these continuous attacks. He voiced the growing fear and frustration within the community. Yakubu emphasized the terrorists’ superior strength, noting, “The frequency and ferocity of the raids, the sophistication of the attackers’ weaponry and their sheer numbers have always left the local people defenseless.” With each assault, the community’s ability to cope is strained. Leaders are now urgently calling for intervention to stop further loss of life and property destruction.
