13 Benue Lawmakers Out Over Dishonorable Conduct

Makurdi, Benue State – The Benue State House of Assembly suspended 13 members today for three months due to “dishonorable conduct.” The suspensions follow controversy surrounding the recent removal of State Chief Judge, Justice Maurice Ikpambese.

Speaker Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh announced the suspensions, condemning the actions of the lawmakers. The suspended members initially supported Justice Ikpambese’s removal but later publicly retracted their support. This reversal created significant division within the Assembly.

Majority Leader Saater Tiseer moved for the suspensions. Tiseer stated that the members’ actions were misleading. The assembly voted, and therefore, the members are suspended.

The suspended lawmakers must also return funds allocated for an upcoming official foreign trip. They will no longer attend the trip.

The suspended members include Douglas Akya (Makurdi South), Jonathan Agbidye (Katsina-Ala East), and Beckie Orpin (Gboko East). A full list of suspended members has not yet been released.

The “dishonorable conduct” and subsequent suspensions mark a period of intense political tension within the Benue State House of Assembly. Further details will be given when released.
