Port Harcourt – Local government elections in Rivers State are approaching, and a key step is complete: the updated voters’ register is now in the hands of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC). The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) provided this crucial document, setting the stage for the August polls.
What Voters Need to Know
The official confirmation came in a letter from INEC, dated March 13, 2025, and signed by Administrative Secretary Odor Napoleon Emezuiruke. RSIEC now has a digital copy of the voters’ register. Commissioner Tamunotonye Tobins, speaking for RSIEC, assured the public that the commission is dedicated to holding “free, fair, and credible elections.”
Mark your calendars: The elections are scheduled for Saturday, August 9, 2025. Alongside the voters’ register, INEC also released the official list of parties competing. Voters will see familiar names like the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as well as others like the Action Peoples Party (APP), the Labour Party (LP), and 15 more. With the release of the updated voters register, preparations for the election are now in full swing.
