Abuja – The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has started an investigation. The investigation focuses on the data processing practices of TikTok and Truecaller.

Concerns exist over potential privacy violations. There are also concerns about the handling of Nigerian users’ personal data. Dr. Vincent Olatunji is the CEO of the NDPC. He said the commission is concerned about breaches of consent and data sharing.
The NDPC wants to safeguard the privacy rights of Nigerians. It wants to hold organizations accountable for their data practices. This follows global scrutiny of technology companies over data privacy.
The NDPC issued the Nigeria Data Protection Act – General Application and Implementation Directive (NDPC Act – GAID), 2025. This provides a framework for implementing Nigeria’s data protection law. Companies operating in Nigeria must follow the country’s data processing regulations. They could face fines or restrictions. The NDPC urged the public to report data privacy violations.
