Ondo State’s Amotekun Corps achieved a critical victory, rescuing five kidnapped passengers last week from the dangerous Akure-Benin highway. This successful operation is a key part of the “Amotekun rescues passengers” initiative.
The Corps also arrested several suspected kidnappers, including three herders. These individuals are accused of the rape of a 75-year-old grandmother in Ifira Akoko. While a primary focus is rescuing passengers, Amotekun also actively arrests those responsible for other crimes.
Commander Akogun Adetunji Adeleye confirmed on Monday that security forces are working to stop bandits from infiltrating the state. He believes this influx is a major factor in the recent increase in kidnapping cases.
Amotekun Rescues Passengers: The Human Impact
The rescued passengers shared harrowing accounts of their captivity, surviving on only water for five days. They expressed deep gratitude for the Amotekun Corps’ life-saving intervention, highlighting the importance of the “Amotekun Rescues Passengers” program.
In a separate incident, the 75-year-old victim described a brutal assault. She explained how her attackers held her, dragged her into the bush for about 20 minutes, and then raped her. This crime occurred in the same area where Amotekun actively worked to rescue kidnapped passengers.
Commander Adeleye stated that the suspects will be brought to justice after a complete investigation. He also reassured the public that efforts are underway to rescue farmers recently kidnapped near Akure Airport, emphasizing the ongoing commitment of “Amotekun rescues passengers.”
