Abuja – The Nigerian Senate directed its Communications Committee to investigate rising data costs. The Senate also seeks solutions for the telecom sector.
Senate Orders Data Cost Probe

The bill stated data prices rose over 200 percent. This put financial strain on Nigerians. They urged the Communications Ministry to work with providers. They should review prices for affordability. The bill listed reasons for high costs. These include poor infrastructure, power issues, import duties, taxes, and regulatory charges. Security issues, delays, and energy costs also raise expenses for providers. Lawmakers suggested reviewing telecom policies and prices. They asked the government to support fair pricing. It should also help service providers stay viable.
