Lagos – The Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) has officially launched NPA Export Process Terminals (EPTs), a significant move designed to streamline the process for shipping Nigerian goods internationally. Announced by Asuquo Okon, NPA’s Principal Manager for Tariff and Billing, these terminals will function as comprehensive hubs for exporters. They will manage everything from cargo consolidation and documentation to packaging, certification, and final shipment preparation.
Simplifying Export Workflows
The primary goal of the new NPA Export Process Terminals is to eliminate common bottlenecks and overlapping procedures that currently hinder exporters. By simplifying these steps, the NPA aims to make Nigerian products more competitive on the global stage. “We are aggressively simplifying our export processes to enable made-in-Nigeria goods transit through our Ports as seamlessly as possible,” Okon explained. These EPTs will also link up with Domestic Export Warehouses (DEWs) through partnerships involving the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) and other key players.
Boosting Efficiency Through Automation
A key part of this initiative involves reducing reliance on manual procedures, which can often lead to delays and potential corruption. Okon emphasized the NPA’s commitment to automation: “We are eliminating human interface which encourages underhand dealings by pursuing the full automation of our processes and procedures through the Ports Community System.” This push for digitization aligns directly with the Federal Government’s broader ease of doing business agenda. The Nigeria Ports Authority encourages businesses to take advantage of this new, streamlined export platform, while acknowledging ongoing efforts needed to address separate challenges related to import cargo delays.
