MAKURDI – Suspected armed herdsmen launched a deadly attack on the Otobi community in Benue State Tuesday evening. Several people are feared dead, and parts of the village were set on fire. The incident occurred in the Akpa District of Otukpo Local Government Area.
Eyewitness John Ada reported the invasion started around 5:30 pm. He stated the incident was ongoing when he provided information.
“The armed herdsmen invaded Otobi this evening,” Ada said. “Those fleeing recovered three corpses.”
Residents Flee Violence
Ada warned the death toll could be higher. “They are still shooting and people are fleeing,” he added.
Kennedy Angbo represents Otukpo-Akpa in the Benue State House of Assembly. He confirmed the attack resulted in deaths and forced hundreds to flee.
Survivor Edwin Emmanuel described the attack as sudden and unprovoked. “We are under severe attack by herdsmen,” he said while fleeing with his family.

Officials Mobilize Security
Otukpo LGA Chairman Maxwell Ogiri confirmed the attack from Abuja. He stated he ordered his aides to mobilize security forces to the area.
“Yes, the attack by herders on Otobi community is confirmed,” Ogiri said. “Security agents are being drafted to the area.”
Ogiri had not received a full casualty report at the time. Contacting the Benue State Police spokesperson, CSP Catherine Anene, for comment was not immediately successful.
