Menlo Park–WhatsApp will stop working on iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus models starting May 5, 2025. Parent company Meta is ending support because these devices cannot run iOS 15.1 or newer. This update requires users of these specific models to upgrade their phones to continue using the messaging app. Check if WhatsApp dropping support in May 2025 affects your device.
Both standard WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business require iOS 15.1 or later, after the deadline. Meta requires this update to maintain app security and enable future features dependent on modern iOS capabilities. Users with the affected iPhones released in 2013 and 2014 must switch to a newer model to retain access.

Previous Android Changes
WhatsApp stopped supporting Android devices running KitKat (4.4) or older on January 1, 2025. The discontinuation affected models such as the Samsung Galaxy S3 and LG Optimus G; therefore, users needed to update their operating systems or devices.
Why Updates Are Necessary
Running apps on outdated operating systems creates security risks. Updates provide essential security patches and allow apps like WhatsApp to function correctly with the latest features. Ensuring devices and software are up-to-date protects user data and ensures application stability.
