Asaba – Chief Love Shimite, the Special Adviser on Trade and Export to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, died early on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025. Her unexpected death has led to a police investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding her death. Initial reports cited a brief illness, but conflicting information requires clarification.
Chief Shimite, also known as ‘Madam Sabificate’, was a Political Science graduate from the University of Ibadan. She previously led the Delta State Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency.
Husband Reports Death, Placed in Protective Custody
Delta State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, confirmed Shimite was pronounced dead upon arrival at St. Luke’s Hospital in Asaba. Edafe stated that Shimite’s husband, Pastor David Favour Love, reported his wife’s death to the police. The husband also reported receiving threats from his wife’s family members.
“He (the husband) was the one who called to report that his wife died early this morning and that he was receiving threats from her family,” Edafe explained. Police placed the husband in protective custody for his safety. Edafe clarified this action was not an arrest.
Family Complaint Sparks Investigation
Chief Shimite’s family later filed a formal complaint with the police. They expressed suspicion regarding the cause of her death and suggested her husband might be involved. This complaint prompted a formal police investigation into her death. Some media outlets shared unconfirmed reports that Shimite was seen foaming at the mouth before she died.
Autopsy Pending
“We are currently investigating,” SP Edafe confirmed. “In situations like this, only an autopsy can determine whether the death was natural or due to other causes.” Police are awaiting the autopsy results.
Authorities moved Chief Shimite’s body to a mortuary for the post-mortem examination. Police expect to provide updates as the investigation continues.
