Abuja – Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has confirmed the arrest of two security operatives. These personnel aiding terrorists were caught working against counter-insurgency efforts in Nigeria’s North-East. Maj. Gen. Markus Kangye, the Director of Defence Media Operations, announced the development.
The individuals arrested were part of hybrid forces. These groups normally assist regular military troops. The arrests took place during recent operations conducted between April 26 and 29 across Bama, Kukawa, and Madagali areas.
Betrayal Within the Ranks: Personnel Aiding Terrorists
Maj. Gen. Kangye described the actions of the arrested men bluntly as a “betrayal.” He stressed the need for commanders to warn their forces strongly against helping terrorists. Such collusion sabotages the military’s hard work. “Commanders are therefore to sensitise hybrid forces personnel to desist from colluding with or encouraging terrorist acts capable of sabotaging our operations,” Kangye stated. Troops intercepted four terrorist logistics suppliers, finding the two hybrid force members among them clear examples of personnel aiding terrorists.
Wider Military Successes Reported
These arrests happened amidst broader military actions that yielded results. Operations led to several terrorists being neutralized. Forces also successfully rescued six kidnap victims and seized caches of weapons and ammunition. In a separate update from the South-South, troops tackled oil theft operations. They recovered significant quantities of stolen crude oil and dismantled numerous illegal refining sites.
