Kontagora – Reports indicate about 300 armed individuals, suspected to be bandits faces, were seen this afternoon. Eyewitnesses saw the large group on motorcycles crossing the Kontagora–Minna highway carrying advanced weapons. The sighting caused fear, and travellers and drivers sought safety.
The group reportedly travelled openly from Zamfara State towards Mashegu Local Government Area without facing security forces initially.
Security Forces Mobilized
Local officials responded to the reports. Abbas Kasuwa Garba, the chairman of Mariga Local Government, confirmed the incident.
- He said joint security teams were sent to the area.
- Military personnel from Beri camp were also sent to find the group and protect communities.
Vigilantes Killed in Clash
Violence occurred despite the security response.
- Two vigilantes from Wamba died confronting the suspected bandits authorities seek.
- Another vigilante was injured and is receiving medical care.
Ongoing Security Situation
This movement highlights regional security problems. Residents are concerned that a large group of armed bandits faces can travel openly. Chairman Garba assured locals that security forces are working to protect them. The state police command has not yet provided official comments on the incident.
