15,000 Nigeria Stranded Citizens to Be Repatriated

Abuja – The Federal Government is discussing how to bring 15,000 Nigeria stranded citizens home. These Nigerians are in countries like Cameroon, Niger, Chad, and other global locations. The plan ensures their return is safe and dignified. Alhaji Tijani Ahmed is the Federal Commissioner for the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI). He said his commission is working on this return. “We are working to ensure the safe return of these displaced persons,” Ahmed stated. He also noted that six million people are displaced within Nigeria, and thousands of Nigerian refugees live abroad.

Nigeria Hosts International Migration Meeting

Besides the efforts for Nigeria stranded citizens, Alhaji Ahmed announced an international meeting. Nigeria will host the first thematic meeting of the Rabat Process under its chairmanship. The Rabat Process is a Euro-African dialogue on migration and development. The meeting’s theme is “Youth, Innovation and Education: Driving the Future of Migration.” Over 100 delegates from 57 partner countries will attend. “Membership in these platforms provides opportunities for knowledge transfer and better migration management,” Ahmed said.

The NCFRMI head stressed the need for education. He said younger generations must be informed about legal migration paths. This can help reduce future numbers of Nigeria stranded citizens. “There is a need to educate migrants about the consequences of irregular migration, including negative outcomes,” he stated. Ahmed called for better coordination from all stakeholders to improve migration governance.
