Ondo APC Chairman Killed by Abductors; Ransom Deal Failed

OSE, ONDO STATE – Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman of Ward 5 in Ose Local Government, Ondo State, was killed by his abductors. Gunmen took Adepoyigi from his Ifon residence near his farm on Monday. His killing reportedly occurred after ransom negotiations failed. The incident of an APC chairman killed has raised security concerns.

Sources said kidnappers first demanded N100 million. This was later reduced to N30 million. The family raised N5 million. A local source said, “They weren’t pleased.” The abductors then held the two men who brought the money. On Friday, Adepoyigi was reportedly shot dead. The two other captives were released.

Council Chairman Confirms Death, Laments Loss

The Chairman of Ose Local Government, Mr. Clement Ojo, confirmed the killing. In a statement, Ojo described Adepoyigi’s death as a painful loss.

“While we are grateful that the two volunteers have now regained their freedom, it is deeply saddening and utterly painful that the life of Mr. Nelson Adepoyigi was brutally cut short by his captors,” Ojo said. He noted Adepoyigi’s dedication to the APC and community development. The Ondo APC chairman killed was a committed party man.

“The entire leadership and people of Ose Local Government mourn this tragic loss,” Ojo added.

Security Concerns Rise in Ose Local Government

Mr. Ojo also stated concerns about insecurity in Ose Local Government. “We are now at a critical juncture where security challenges have become a serious threat to the safety and freedom of our people,” he said.

He mentioned a recent incident where another resident nearly escaped abduction. Ojo called the kidnapping pattern “brazen” and “intolerable.” Adepoyigi’s killing has led to increased calls for government action on kidnappings in Ondo State.
