ABUJA – The Federal Government now controls 753 housing units in Abuja. These homes are forfeited houses, taken from the former Central Bank Governor. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recovered the large estate. It has now been handed to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. Salisu Haiba, a ministry spokesperson, confirmed this positive step.
This handover is a clear victory in Nigeria’s fight against corruption. It ensures that assets once lost are now used to directly help the Nigerian people. The Ministry received the properties at its Mabushi headquarters.
Homes to Benefit the Public, Minister Assures
Arc Ahmed Dangiwa, the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, praised the EFCC’s effective work. “This is a major step. It shows our strong will to use recovered assets for the good of all Nigerians,” Dangiwa stated. This means more FG sells Abuja homes to citizens.
Before any sale, the Ministry and EFCC will inspect the entire estate. “We will check every building and all infrastructure. This will confirm they are safe and ready for people to live in,” Dangiwa explained. This careful check of the forfeited houses prioritizes public safety.
How Nigerians Can Access These Homes
The government plans a public sale for most of these homes. Some units might be used for specific government needs. Minister Dangiwa promised an open and fair sale process for the Renewed Hope housing initiative. “The sale will be open to everyone. We will advertise nationwide. Interested Nigerians can apply through the Renewed Hope Portal,” he announced.
This sale of forfeited houses is a direct action to reduce Nigeria’s housing shortage. President Bola Tinubu has instructed that the estate be finished and sold transparently. EFCC Chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede said this handover clearly shows the real impact of successful anti-corruption efforts.
