Police Station Ablaze in Ifon, Ondo State, After Custody Death Dispute

Ifon, Ondo State – A police station in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area, Ondo State, was set ablaze Sunday by youths protesting the alleged death of a young man, Tobi Bobade, after his arrest. The incident has ignited widespread anger and prompted a full investigation by state police.

Police said Bobade, appeared weak after being taken into custody, was rushed immediately to the hospital, and later pronounced dead, during treatment.

The Ondo State Police Command denies Bobade died in custody. Command spokesperson Funmi Odunlami stated, “He appeared weak and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention but was later pronounced dead while receiving treatment.”

Police Commissioner Wilfred Afolabi condemned the arson. He ordered a full-scale investigation into the circumstances of Bobade’s death and the subsequent burning of the police station.

“Such acts of lawlessness will not be tolerated,” Afolabi stated. “All those responsible for this criminal act will face the full weight of the law.”

Afolabi urged residents to remain calm. He assured the public that the investigation is ongoing and that updates will be provided. Police are working to restore order in Ifon.
