ANFIELD – Liverpool marked a historic season end on the Premier League final day. The Reds drew 1-1 with Crystal Palace and finally lifted the Premier League trophy before their home fans. This celebration was denied in 2020 due to COVID-19. The day also saw intense action that settled the European qualification places. Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp returned to Anfield for the event.
Liverpool’s Emotional Title Celebration

Anfield observed a rare mutual guard of honour. Crystal Palace, recent FA Cup winners, participated. Ismaila Sarr of Palace scored an early goal in the ninth minute. Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah later scored a deflected equalizer. This came even after Ryan Gravenberch received a red card. “It was emotional, like a full-circle moment,” Jurgen Klopp said about his return. The Liverpool trophy lift was a key moment.

European Places Sealed in Dramatic Fashion
Arsenal secured second place. A late Martin Odegaard winner gave them a 1-0 victory over bottom-club Southampton. Manchester City claimed third place. They beat Fulham 2-0 with an acrobatic Ilkay Gundogan strike and an Erling Haaland penalty. “It’s important to finish strong, especially after the ups and downs this season,” Gundogan stated.
Chelsea clinched the fourth Champions League spot. Levi Colwill’s tap-in secured a 1-0 win against Nottingham Forest. This result sent Forest to the Conference League in seventh place. Forest missed their first Champions League chance since 1980. Newcastle United finished fifth despite a 1-0 home loss to Everton. This happened because Aston Villa suffered a dramatic 2-0 defeat at Manchester United. Aston Villa’s loss included an early disallowed goal. A red card for Emi Martinez, upheld after a VAR review, added to their frustration. Amad Diallo and Christian Eriksen scored for Manchester United. This dropped Villa to sixth, securing them a Europa League spot. Tottenham, despite a recent Europa League triumph, surprisingly lost 4-1 to Brighton. This heavy defeat saw them finish a disappointing 17th.
Relegated Teams Conclude Season
Relegation for Ipswich, Leicester, and Southampton was already confirmed before the Premier League final day. Ipswich lost 3-1 to West Ham. Leicester lost 2-0 at Bournemouth. “We gave everything, but luck wasn’t on our side,” Leicester’s interim coach lamented after their defeat. Southampton nearly held Arsenal before Odegaard’s late goal. In a mid-table match, Wolves and Brentford drew 1-1. The day’s events highlighted the Premier League’s usual mix of joy, disappointment, and intense competition
