Taraba Orthopaedic Hospital Development: World-Class Goal

JALINGO, Taraba State – A significant healthcare transformation is underway in Taraba State. The federal government has given a clear directive to Professor Chubadu Tahir, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the National Orthopaedic Hospital Jalingo. His mandate: to elevate the hospital into a world-class facility. This upgraded institution will serve the entire North-East region. The ambitious Taraba Orthopaedic Hospital development is a beacon of hope for advanced medical care.

Professor Tahir shared this vision in an exclusive interview with journalists on Thursday. He expressed deep commitment to the task. “I came with a vision and to the glory of Almighty Allah, I got funding from the federal government which aided me to, within two years, put up these magnificent buildings today,” Tahir stated, showcasing the rapid progress.

From Humble Beginnings to Growing Strength

Professor Tahir painted a picture of the hospital’s modest start. Initially, he and the director of administration were the only two staff members, both appointed in acting capacities. “We built on from there,” he explained with a sense of accomplishment. The Federal Ministry of Health first guided him to recruit staff on secondment from established institutions. “They were the hardworking people we used to set up the foundation of the hospital,” he acknowledged, praising their dedication.

He also extended heartfelt praise to the Taraba State government. Their support was crucial, providing both a temporary site and the permanent land for the hospital. A key milestone was the signing of a memorandum of understanding in August 2024, solidifying the Taraba Orthopaedic Hospital development plans.

Crucial State Support Fuels Expansion

Highlighting the depth of local commitment, Professor Tahir revealed that the state government first granted seven hectares of land. They later generously added another five hectares, bringing the total allocated area to an impressive twelve hectares. “When we came on board, there were no structures. This place was a drug rehabilitation center, but we had to do some restructuring,” he recalled, indicating the groundwork required.

The hospital officially commenced its services with an outpatient clinic in August 2024. This marked the first operational step in what Professor Tahir passionately envisions as a globally competitive orthopaedic institution. The ongoing Taraba Orthopaedic Hospital development is central to achieving this grand vision for healthcare in the region.
