EDIKWU ANKPALI, BENUE STATE – At least 25 people are dead after suspected herdsmen attacked Edikwu Ankpali community in Apa Local Government Area of Benue State. The Benue herdsmen attack happened around 6 p.m. Attackers invaded the village and shot at residents.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers came from nearby bushes, surprising villagers. “They just came in a large number with sophisticated weapons this evening, around 6 p.m. precisely, and began to attack anyone in sight,” a local resident, Mike, told National Scoop by phone. This herdsmen attack has caused significant fear and loss.
Abductions Reported in Wake of Benue Herdsmen Attack
Several villagers, including women and children, were reportedly abducted during the assault. The exact number kidnapped is unclear. “After the shooting, they started going house to house, pulling people out. Many families have not seen their loved ones since,” said another source, who requested anonymity.
Hundreds of residents have fled their homes due to fear of more attacks. They are seeking safety in other communities after the deadly herdsmen attack.
No Official Word on Latest Benue Herdsmen Attack
As of press time, neither the Benue State Government nor security agencies had made an official statement about the attack. This silence has angered locals, who feel unprotected amid ongoing violence. This attack adds to many deadly incidents in Benue State, which has a history of farmer-herder clashes.
Community leaders are calling for urgent military help. They warn the area could see more chaos if authorities do not act quickly after this herdsmen attack.
