Eid-ul-Adha: FG Declares June 6, 9 Public Holidays

ABUJA – The Federal Government has declared Friday, June 6, and Monday, June 9, 2025, as Eid-ul-Adha public holidays. This allows Muslim faithful in Nigeria and abroad to observe the Eid-ul-Adha festival. Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo announced this. The statement was issued by Magdalene Ajani, the ministry’s Permanent Secretary.

These public holidays are for Muslims to mark the sacred occasion with reflection and reverence.

Sacrifice, Faith, and National Prayer Urged

Minister Tunji-Ojo congratulated the Muslim Ummah on the Eid celebration. He encouraged them to embrace the values of sacrifice and faith, as shown by Prophet Ibrahim. “Let us use this period to pray for a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria,” the Minister stated. He noted the holiday’s meaning goes beyond festivities. The spiritual core of Eid should inspire national unity and moral responsibility during these Eid-ul-Adha public holidays.

Support for “Renewed Hope” Agenda Highlighted

The Minister restated the administration’s commitment to reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He described these as efforts to return Nigeria to a path of growth and development. “While wishing the Muslim Ummah a happy Eid-ul-Adha celebration, the Minister urged all Nigerians to join hands with the present administration in its efforts to restore the glory of Nigeria as a great nation,” the statement concluded. This calls for collective action during the Eid-ul-Adha public holidays.
