Ohanaeze Urges Tinubu Cabinet: More “Umahis” Needed Now

ABUJA – As President Bola Tinubu marks his second year in office, the influential Igbo sociocultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has offered both praise and pointed advice. The group lauded the President for a push on critical road projects, singling out the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway. However, the core of their message was a call for more leaders like Works Minister Senator David Umahi in the Tinubu cabinet.

In a statement delivered by its Deputy President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Ohanaeze hailed Senator Umahi’s performance as a shining example of “effective governance.” Isiguzoro said Umahi’s work not only reflects President Tinubu’s “vision and administrative acumen” but also signals a “renaissance of governance Nigeria desperately needs.” This commendation formed the backdrop for Ohanaeze’s strong appeal for an expanded Tinubu cabinet with similar high-performing individuals.

A Call for a More Dynamic Federal Team

Ohanaeze Ndigbo didn’t mince words in advocating for a federal cabinet brimming with greater capability and foresight. Isiguzoro described Senator Umahi’s leadership style as embodying the “indomitable Igbo spirit, characterized by innovation, resilience, and effective leadership.” He pointed out that this dynamic spirit is currently not sufficiently represented within the Federal Executive Council. The group firmly believes that injecting more leaders of Umahi’s caliber into the Tinubu cabinet would significantly benefit the nation.

“Had President Tinubu the foresight to incorporate five or six luminary figures of Umahi’s caliber,” the statement asserted, “Nigeria would undoubtedly find itself on par with India, Singapore, Morocco, South Africa, Japan, and Turkey.” Ohanaeze emphasized that broadening the leadership pool with demonstrably competent figures is a clear path to reducing political tensions and fast-tracking national development.

June 12: A Golden Opportunity for Renewal in Ohanaeze Tinubu Cabinet

With Democracy Day on June 12, 2025, approaching, Ohanaeze Ndigbo sees a prime opportunity for President Tinubu. They urged him to use this significant date to refresh his cabinet. They also suggested this as a moment to build stronger bridges with the Igbo community through fair policies and more inclusive top-level appointments.

“Aligning the administration with competent, driven leaders like Senator Umahi can transform Nigeria’s trajectory,” Isiguzoro passionately argued. He concluded with a reminder of the Igbo community’s significant presence across all 774 Local Government Areas, noting, “They possess the capability to enhance the President’s standing, solidifying support that transcends regional and ethnic divides.”
