Peter Obi Mokwa Visit: Pledges N20m to Flood Victims

MOKWA, NIGER STATE – Peter Obi, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, made a Mokwa visit to the flood-stricken Mokwa Local Government Area in Niger State. The area is recovering from flash floods that have killed at least 153 people and displaced over 3,000.

Accompanied by former minister Nenadi Usman and spokesperson Yunusa Tanko, Obi expressed sympathies to affected families and officials. “Today, along with @SenNenadiUsman and Dr @YunusaTanko, I travelled to Niger State to condole and show solidarity with the Governor and the good people of the state,” Obi posted on X. He had previously contacted Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago from the UK and was received by Deputy Governor Yakubu Garba.

N20 Million Pledged to Mokwa Floods Victims; Obi Calls for Unity

During his Mokwa visit, he announced a ₦20 million personal donation to support victims of the Mokwa floods. He also called for a united national response to the disaster. “As part of my commitment to stand with the people of Niger State during this difficult time, I made an initial donation of ₦20 million,” Obi said. State officials reported the crisis is severe: over 200 people are feared dead, 1,000 are still missing, and thousands are displaced by the Mokwa floods.

“This incident and others happening all over Nigeria affect us all. As a family, we must come together,” Obi urged. He called on the Federal Government, emergency agencies, and citizens to support rescue and recovery efforts.
