Fubara Visits Tinubu Amid Rivers State Suspension

LAGOS – Suspended Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara met President Bola Tinubu in Lagos. Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Information Strategy, confirmed this Fubara visit via Facebook.

Onanuga posted, “Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers, now on suspension from office visited President Bola Tinubu in Lagos on Tuesday.” This Fubara visit is significant due to recent events in Rivers State.

Background: Fubara’s Suspension, Rivers Emergency

The meeting follows President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025. Tinubu cited the need for law and order amid a crisis between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. The President suspended Fubara, his Deputy, Mrs. Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers Assembly for an initial six months. The Fubara visit took place during this suspension.

Rivers Governance During Emergency

Retired Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas is the administrator for Rivers State during the emergency rule. He manages state affairs while elected officials are suspended. The suspension and emergency rule heavily impact Rivers State governance. The Fubara visit might be an attempt to resolve the ongoing crisis. Details of their discussion were not disclosed.
