UYO, AKWA IBOM STATE – A significant political move in Akwa Ibom: State Commissioner for Information and Special Duties, Ini Ememobong, has officially stepped down. His resignation is a direct consequence of Governor Umo Eno’s recent defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The news of the Ememobong resignation in Akwa Ibom broke on Friday through a public statement.
Ememobong took to his Facebook page to announce his decision. He explained it was driven by his personal convictions and deeply held political stance. “Behold another bend. Today, I have tendered my resignation to the Governor in compliance with his directive that his appointees who are unwilling to join him on the political journey to the APC should resign,” he wrote, making his position clear.
Governor’s Party Switch Forces Cabinet Choices
Governor Eno’s jump to the APC has sent ripples through Akwa Ibom’s political establishment. It led to a clear directive for his cabinet members: follow him to the APC or step down. In his response, Ememobong expressed respect for the governor’s individual choice but stood firm on his own ideological ground. “While I cannot question or fault the governor’s personal decision, I am unable to join in that sojourn,” Ememobong stated. This Ememobong resignation in Akwa Ibom marks the first prominent departure since the governor’s party switch, highlighting the deep internal rifts over party loyalty.
