Bandits Kill Two, Kidnap 10 in Niger State

Minna, Niger State – Bandits killed two people and kidnapped at least ten others in attacks across Wushishi and Rafi Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Niger State. The attacks occurred on Tuesday and Wednesday.

A security operative, speaking anonymously, confirmed the deaths of a vigilante and a logger. He stated that bandits are currently occupying Akare Forest. “One of the vigilantes has been kidnapped…One of the vigilantes and a logger have been killed,” he said. The logger was reportedly shot after being forced to help the attackers.

Locals reported, as of Wednesday at 5 p.m., that the bandits, accompanied by a large number of stolen cattle, remained in Akare forest. Another source stated that the assailants, riding three to a motorcycle, were seen at their usual crossing point in Kundu, Rafi LGA, moving toward Mashegu LGA.

The attacks also hit communities in the Gunna District of Rafi LGA on Wednesday morning. The bandits burned down yam barns there.

Niger State Commissioner for Homeland Security, Brigadier General Bello Abdullahi Mohammed (Rtd), confirmed the incidents. He said that security forces have been deployed and are pursuing the attackers.
