Police confirm assassination of university official in Ondo State residence
Akure, Ondo State – Police confirmed the murder of Mr. Ezekiel Adeniran, the 41-year-old Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State. His body was discovered Thursday morning at his Akure residence, six months after his appointment.
Police Investigation Launched
The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the killing and began investigating the circumstances. Police spokesperson Olayinka Ayanlade provided details about the attack.
“I can confirm to you that the man was killed. We are doing everything possible to unravel the lies surrounding this case,” Ayanlade said.
The attackers forced an unknown substance into another victim’s mouth before killing the registrar. Police described this as evidence of a planned attack rather than random violence.
Two Attackers Identified
Police reports show two men emerged from bushland near Adeniran’s residence during the early morning attack. The timing and location suggest the perpetrators knew his routine.
“From the information I have at my disposal, two men came out of the bush… our area of interest is to unravel who is responsible for his death,” Ayanlade said.
Police asked residents to share information about the case. All tips will remain confidential, according to the spokesperson.
University Confirms Loss
UNIMED management expressed shock over Adeniran’s death. The Head of Media and Protocol, Mr. Isaac Oluyi, confirmed the registrar worked until Monday, July 14, 2025.
“The devastating news has thrown the university into mourning, as it was shocking! He was still at his duty post on Monday, 14th July, 2025,” the university statement read.
The institution confirmed that investigators have not determined a motive for the killing.
Six-Month Tenure Ended
Adeniran served as UNIMED registrar for six months before his death. The University of Medical Sciences operates as a state institution training medical professionals in Ondo State.
The registrar position involves administrative oversight of university operations, student affairs, and institutional planning. Colleagues described Adeniran as committed to his work at the medical university.
Police continue investigating the murder while the university community processes the loss of their administrative leader.
