Gospel Singer Jailed for Cybercrime in Kwara Court Ruling

Federal High Court sentences Moses Otitoju and eight others for cybercrime, conspiracy, and fund misappropriation.

Ilorin, Kwara State – A Federal High Court in Ilorin sentenced gospel singer Moses Otitoju and eight others for cybercrime offenses Friday. Justice Abimbola Awogboro handed down sentences ranging from six months to three years for internet fraud and money laundering.

Gospel Singer Gets Six Months Prison

Moses Otitoju Sesan received six months imprisonment without the option of a fine. The court found he retained N8,404,339 in proceeds from criminal activities between October and December 2024.

“Otitoju Moses Sesan, sometime between October 2024 and December 2024, did retain control of the gross sum of N8,404,339 in your account, being proceeds of criminal conduct,” the charge read.

EFCC Head of Media and Publicity Dele Oyewale confirmed the conviction.

Three Co-defendants Forfeit Phones and Cash

Ayodele Joseph received eight months imprisonment for retaining N243,750. Adeoye Joseph got eight months and forfeited $220, an iPhone 13, and a Tecno Pop 9.

Abubakar Abdulmalik received six months and forfeited an iPhone 16 and Samsung S10.

“The EFCC presented statements, exhibits, and sums recovered as restitution, all admitted in evidence,” Oyewale stated.

Kwara State High Court Justices Haleema Saleeman and Sulaiman Akanbi convicted five additional defendants on cybercrime charges: Emeka Achi, Isaac Oluwafemi, Afolabi Olatoye, Zubeiru Zubeiru Junior, and Abdulkadir Taofeek.

Justice Akanbi sentenced Abdulkadir Taofeek to three years imprisonment with a N500,000 fine option. The court ordered him to forfeit N800,000 and two phones.

Restitution Orders and Monitoring

Justice Saleeman gave Emeka Achi, Isaac Oluwafemi, and Afolabi Olatoye six months each with N100,000 fine options. Emeka must refund N3.35 million within three months.

The court ordered Emeka to report to the EFCC office every two weeks with his parents until he completes repayment.

The convictions are part of the EFCC’s ongoing campaign against internet fraud in Nigeria.
