The Wednesday session will feature speeches from senators who served during Buhari’s 2015-2023 presidency.

“This is our way of paying final respect to a man whose leadership shaped modern Nigeria,” a senior Senate source told reporters Monday.

Tinubu Leads Federal Tributes

President Bola Tinubu praised Buhari during a Federal Executive Council meeting last week in Abuja. The FEC held its memorial session for Buhari on July 18.

“He led the country with restraint, governed with dignity and bore the burdens of leadership without complaint,” Tinubu said.

Buhari’s Political Record

Buhari served as Nigeria’s president from 2015 to 2023 after defeating Goodluck Jonathan. He previously ruled as military head of state from 1983 to 1985.

His presidency focused on anti-corruption campaigns through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. The administration recovered over $3 billion in stolen public funds, according to government records.

Buhari’s government fought Boko Haram insurgency in northeastern Nigeria while facing criticism over security challenges.

Death and Burial

Buhari died July 13 at a London medical facility. His body was flown to Nigeria and buried July 15 in Daura, Katsina State.

Thousands attended the burial ceremony, including governors from northern states. Vice President Kashim Shettima represented the federal government at the funeral.
