President Bola Tinubu has signed legislation establishing two new federal universities in Osun and Ekiti states. The Federal University of Agriculture and Development Studies will be located in Iragbiji, Osun State, and the Federal University of Technology and Environmental Sciences will be in Iyin Ekiti, Ekiti State.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga stated that the federal universities will train professionals in agriculture, science, and technology. This will boost Nigeria’s competitiveness.
The President said the institutions will provide for the educational needs of the people. They will also help research, innovation, and economic growth.
Nigeria currently has 63 federal universities, 63 state universities, and 149 private universities, according to the National Universities Commission (NUC).
