Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun West Senatorial District want the party’s 2026 governorship candidate to come from their district. They warned local youth against opposing this plan. The decision was confirmed at a stakeholders meeting, building upon a prior emergency meeting.
The leaders stated that if former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola does not run, the governorship ticket should go to Osun West. Several groups within the APC support this, citing fairness.
“We are begging all the elders and leaders of APC in Osun state,” one leader said. “None [of the past candidates] has been done in the west…except we pick a candidate from Osun West, it will be difficult for us to win in 2026.”
Some party members, however, want the party to prioritize the candidate’s ability over zoning.
Former local government chairmen from the district have also asked party leadership to allocate the 2026 governorship ticket to Osun West. The Progressive Frontliners, another APC group, echoed this, saying it would help defeat incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke.
