UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with Volodymyr Zelensky in London on Saturday. The meeting occurred a day after Zelensky faced tensions with US President Donald Trump. Starmer reaffirmed his support for Ukraine before Sunday’s summit in London. The summit addresses support for Ukraine as it battles Russia.
UK Support for Ukraine
Starmer said the UK will work with allies to prepare for European security guarantees. He mentioned continued discussions with the United States. Starmer emphasized unity to secure the best outcome for Ukraine, protect European security, and secure the collective future. Earlier, Ukraine and the UK signed a £2.26 billion loan agreement. This agreement will support Ukraine’s defense. The loan will be repaid with profits from immobilized Russian assets. He stated the funds would be directed towards weapons production in Ukraine. He said this is justice because the war’s initiator must pay.
Supporters cheered as his convoy arrived at Downing Street. Starmer embraced him and posed for photos. Starmer welcomed him to Downing Street. Zelensky thanked the UK for its strong support since the war began. The leaders met privately for 75 minutes. Starmer escorted Zelensky to his car.
