Kaduna – A Catholic priest, Reverend Father Sylvester Okechukwu, was murdered by suspected bandits in Kaduna State. He served at St. Mary Catholic Church in Tachira, Kaura Local Government Area. The brutal act has left the community reeling.
Father Jacob Shanet, from the Archdiocese of Kafanchan, reported that Okechukwu was taken from his home Tuesday night. The kidnapping occurred around 9:15 PM.
His death was confirmed on Wednesday morning, Ash Wednesday, adding to the grief. The reason behind this attack on the priest remains a mystery.
A Dedicated Life Cut Short
Shanet expressed the community’s devastation. He described Father Sylvester as a dedicated priest who tirelessly shared messages of peace and hope. His loss is felt deeply by all who knew him.
Parishioners remember him as a kind and approachable reverend father. He was always there for his flock. Now, his sudden and violent death leaves a hole in the hearts of many. He was more than a priest; he was a friend.
The Catholic Archdiocese is urging everyone to remain calm. They have asked the community to avoid any acts of revenge. “Stay calm and pray,” the statement urged, “Do not take the law into your own hands.”
