Adeyanju Hits Obidients Over Sowore Facebook Attack

LAGOS – Activist Deji Adeyanju has strongly criticized supporters of Peter Obi, called “Obidients.” Adeyanju claims they attacked Omoyele Sowore’s Facebook page. He stated this was to silence Sowore’s views on the Labour Party’s former presidential candidate. The sharp words from Deji Adeyanju about Obidients came in a statement on Saturday.

Adeyanju, a known human rights lawyer, declared that Obidients organized mass reports against Sowore’s Facebook page. This action resulted in the page’s deactivation. Sowore is the African Action Congress (AAC) candidate. Adeyanju sees this as a clear attempt to suppress criticism of Obi.

“It is very disappointing. Peter Obi’s supporters, the Obidient group, united to report Omoyele Sowore’s Facebook page. They did this because he speaks truth about their candidate,” Adeyanju asserted. “This is not how democracy works. If you want a better Nigeria, you do not silence different voices.” The alleged Sowore Facebook attack drew Adeyanju’s fire.

Adeyanju Targets Peter Obi Governance Record

Deji Adeyanju also challenged the positive narrative around Peter Obi. He pointed to what he called significant failures during Obi’s term as Anambra State governor. This Peter Obi governance record is a key part of his argument.

“We must be honest. Obi’s time as Anambra governor had many failures,” Adeyanju stated plainly. He outlined these specific problems:

  • Doctors in the state went on strike.
  • The education sector faced difficulties.
  • Obi did not conduct local government elections. Adeyanju also referenced unsolved killings of MASSOB members during Obi’s governorship.

He further criticised Obi’s multiple political party affiliations. Obi moved from APGA to PDP, and then to the Labour Party. Adeyanju feels this shows a lack of firm political belief. “He changed from APGA to PDP, where he was Atiku’s running mate. Then he joined Labour Party. This shows he lacks a clear ideology. The PDP he was part of helped damage Nigeria,” Adeyanju contended.

Call for Truth Over Political Loyalty

Deji Adeyanju insisted his criticisms are not from personal dislike of Obi. He said his aim is to demand honesty and good conduct in politics. He commended Sowore for consistently championing truth and justice. Adeyanju strongly condemned the actions taken to silence him. “Sowore has always stood for what is true and just,” he said.

“These attacks by Obidient supporters, approved and encouraged by Peter Obi himself, aim to hide the truth,” Adeyanju claimed about the Sowore Facebook attack. He restated his belief in open debate. “No one hates Peter Obi. We oppose the lies and image cleaning by his followers. We will not allow politics to become a cult. Nigeria needs truth and accountability.” This was the firm stance of Deji Adeyanju regarding Obidients.
