Akure, Ondo State – Lucky Aiyedatiwa was sworn in as Governor of Ondo State on Monday, beginning his term after the death of the former Governor. The ceremony occurred in Akure, with government officials, traditional rulers, and party leaders present.
Chief Judge of Ondo State, Justice A.O. Odusola, administered the oath of office to him at 12:59 p.m. Deputy Governor Olayide Adelami was sworn in shortly before.
In his speech, Aiyedatiwa thanked the people of Ondo State. He promised to focus on infrastructure, economic growth, job creation, and security. “Our administration will work for the progress of Ondo State,” he said.
Aiyedatiwa, representing the All Progressives Congress (APC), won the November 16, 2024, governorship election. APC leaders, including the national chairman and several governors, stated their support for his administration.
He previously took office on December 27, 2023, following the death of former Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. On January 24, 2024, he dissolved the State Executive Council. He won the recent election with over 366,000 votes, across all 18 local government areas.
Challenges for the new Governor include improving infrastructure and the state’s economy. “We will build a more prosperous Ondo State,” Aiyedatiwa stated.
