Akpabio Assassination Allegation: Senate President Petitions Police

Abuja – Senate President Godswill Akpabio petitioned Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun regarding the Akpabio assassination allegation made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan. Akpabio denied the claim, calling it a dangerous lie intended to damage his reputation and incite unrest.

Akpabio Demands Probe, Calls Claims “Heinous Lies”

In the petition, Akpabio rejected the Akpabio assassination allegation. “This statement is not only a heinous lie but a reckless and deliberate attempt to damage my reputation, endanger my life and security, and incite political unrest,” Akpabio stated. He asserted the claims were politically motivated “blackmail and character assassination.” The Senate President urged the police to investigate immediately and prosecute Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan for criminal defamation and incitement.

Urgency Stressed Amid Widespread Coverage

Akpabio stressed the need for swift action because the allegation spread widely across TV, radio, print, and social media. “The severity of this false allegation… makes it necessary that law enforcement agencies treat it with the urgency it deserves,” the petition noted. This dispute is another conflict between Senate President Akpabio and Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan within the Nigerian Senate. The Inspector General of Police’s office has received the petition.
