Anambra Lawyer Iloakasi Assassination: Gunmen Kill Him, Client

ANAMBRA – Barrister Ifeanyi Iloakasi, a lawyer and President General of Aguleri community, was killed on Wednesday. The attack occurred along the Nanka/Agulu boundary in Orumba North. Iloakasi had just secured his client’s release in a murder case at High Court II, Ekwulobia. The Anambra lawyer, Ifeanyi Iloakasi assassination happened as he returned from court.

Anambra police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, provided details. “Preliminary investigations suggest that the victims were attacked while returning from the court session, having been trailed and double-crossed by the assailants,” Ikenga stated.

Escape Attempt Ends in Tragedy

Eyewitnesses reported Iloakasi’s client tried to escape. The client jumped from their red Toyota Camry. The gunmen chased and also killed him. Police confirmed a third person in the car survived. This survivor is receiving medical treatment.

“One of the victims survived the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment… [and] has provided crucial information that is aiding ongoing investigations and manhunt operations,” Ikenga added. This information is key to the Ifeanyi Iloakasi assassination investigation.

Police Investigate Targeted Killing

The killings have led to suspicion of a targeted assassination. Many believe the attack is linked to Iloakasi’s recent court victory. Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, visited the crime scene at Egbebelu village, Nanka. He has launched a full investigation into the Ifeanyi Iloakasi assassination.

SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a press release, stated: “The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, on Thursday, at about 11:30 a.m., led a team of senior officers to the crime scene at Egbebelu village, Nanka, Orumba North Local Government Area, where two persons were gruesomely murdered by yet-to-be-identified armed men operating on a motorcycle.”

Ikenga said, “The Commissioner of Police has ordered an intensive investigation into the incident and deployed tactical and intelligence teams to track down the perpetrators and ensure justice is served.” The bodies of Iloakasi and his client were recovered and identified. The red Toyota Camry was retrieved as evidence. Police are working to find the motive for the killings.
