An Appeal Court in Ibadan has reinstated Ghandi Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomoso, overturning a previous High Court ruling. The decision, delivered today, concludes a legal challenge to Oba Olaoye’s selection and installation.
Justice Yargata Nimpar, leading a three-judge panel, found in favour of Oba Olaoye on all ten grounds of appeal. The court overturned the October 25, 2023, judgment by Justice K.A. Adedokun of the Oyo State High Court. That prior ruling had declared Olaoye’s selection process invalid, citing alleged violations of the 1958 Soun Chieftaincy Declaration.
The Appeal Court’s ruling sets aside the previous judgment. Oba Olaoye is now confirmed as the legitimate Soun of Ogbomoso.
This decision ends the legal dispute surrounding Olaoye’s appointment. He remains the traditional ruler of Ogbomoso. The legal team of the Soun of Ogbomosho has not given statement yet.
