Anambra – The Nigerian Army is urging young people in the South-East to enlist in its current recruitment exercise, citing significantly low participation from the region. Brigadier-General Chima Ekeator, heading the Army’s recruitment awareness team in Anambra, highlighted the need for increased South-East recruitment to ensure fair representation.
Significant Enlistment Gap Revealed
Brigadier-General Ekeator expressed concern over the registration numbers. “According to records, only 200 persons have registered from the South-East, while in other states, not less than 4000 persons have registered,” he revealed during a meeting with community leaders. He stressed that boosting South-East recruitment is vital for the region to meet its enlistment quota and enhance its presence within the force.
State Leaders Mobilize Support
The Anambra State government has pledged its full support. Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, represented by Youth Development Commissioner Mr. Patrick Aghambah, called on community leaders, including President-Generals (P-Gs) and traditional rulers, to actively encourage youth participation. Aghambah specifically asked them to rally at least 10 young people per community for the South-East recruitment. Adding his voice, Mr. Tony-Collins Nwabunwanne, Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, reminded eligible youths aged 18 to 22 to consider the career opportunity offered by the Army.
