Assault on DSS Officers: Lagos Assembly Staffs Held

Three Lagos State House of Assembly employees are in custody after a Federal High Court ordered their remand for allegedly assaulting DSS officers. Ibrahim Olanrewaju, Adetu Adekunle, and Fatimoh Adetola were accused of obstructing and attacking the officers on February 17 at the Assembly complex.

The Department of State Security Services (DSS) claims the defendants conspired to obstruct DSS officers performing their duties. The charges also include cyberstalking. The DSS alleges the defendants recorded and shared false information on social media to incite public unrest.

Specifically, the DSS stated that Olanrewaju and Adekunle used an iPhone 12 Pro Max and a Tecno POP 8 to disseminate misleading content. This content, the agency said, was intended to embarrass the DSS and cause public disorder.

DSS counsel, Mr. Michael Bajela, requested the defendants’ arraignment. Justice Daniel Osiagor ordered their remand pending a review of the case file.

The defendants will remain in DSS officers custody until their arraignment on Wednesday. Justice Osiagor indicated he needs time to examine the specifics of the case before proceeding. The incident raises questions about the security protocols at the Lagos State House of Assembly and the relationship between Assembly staff and security agencies.
