Abuja – Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is staying put. His media office has quashed rumors that he’s ditching the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 elections.
In a Saturday statement, his team slammed the defection rumors as “a total fallacy.” They emphasized that he remains a dedicated PDP member. “Don’t believe the hype! he is a committed member of the PDP,” the statement declared.
Building a United Front
Atiku’s camp highlighted his ongoing efforts to unite opposition parties. The goal? To challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
“He’s all about building a strong coalition. That includes the PDP and other opposition forces,” the statement explained.
This clarification comes after whispers about Atiku possibly joining the Social Democratic Party (SDP). His meetings with ex-Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai stirred the pot.
The statement wrapped up by dismissing the defection talk as a smokescreen. It’s designed, they say, to distract from the growing coalition aiming to unseat the APC.
With this statement, Atiku’s team hopes to set the record straight. He is firmly committed to the PDP and the push for a united opposition.
