Benue Attacks: 19 Killed, Villages Abandoned in Kwande LGA

Benue Attacks have left at least 19 people dead in Kwande Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State over the past two days. Armed attackers targeted farmers, causing widespread fear and displacement.

The violence began Saturday evening. Attackers ambushed 16 farmers from Mbandwe Ward. The victims’ bodies were found in the River Katsina-Ala.

On Monday afternoon, the Benue Attacks continued in Boguwa, Kumakua Council Ward. Three more people died. Attackers burned homes and food storage.

Many residents are missing. Survivors have fled to Jato Aka and other areas they assess as safe.

Iorbee Ihagh, President General of Mzough U Tiv (MUT), confirmed the deaths. He said all six council wards in Turan are now empty because of the violence. He spoke from Jato Aka, expressing fear for displaced people as the attacks persist.

Local authorities have not yet responded. Attempts to reach security officials failed.

Ihagh has asked President Bola Tinubu to send more troops to Benue State. Residents are abandoning their homes, fearing more violence.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Chief Superintendent, CSP, Catherine Anene, could not be reached for comment.
