Gamboru Ngala – At least eight people, including women and children, lost their lives Monday morning after their vehicles struck an improvised explosive device (IED) near Gamboru Ngala, Borno State. This tragic Bomb Blast also left three others injured.
The incident happened around 11 a.m. near the village of Furunduma, about 11 kilometers from Rann, the main town in Kala-Balge local government area. The convoy was traveling from Rann when it encountered the explosive, believed to have been planted by Boko Haram terrorists.
Rising Death Toll Fears
Initial reports confirmed eight fatalities, but sources on the ground fear the actual number killed could be much higher, with some estimates exceeding 20 people. Other accounts mention 26 fatalities from two vehicles involved in the explosion. Borno State Police spokesperson ASP Nahum Daso confirmed the blast occurred and stated the injured were taken for medical treatment.
Security Situation After Bomb Blast Borno
This attack highlights the persistent security challenges in the Gamboru Ngala and Kala Balge regions, which share a border with Cameroon and have seen repeated violence. Worryingly, this deadly incident occurred just one day after suspected Boko Haram fighters killed two civilian security members and ten firewood collectors in the nearby Gwoza area. Attempts to reach Police Public Relations Officer ASP Kenneth Daso for additional comments were not successful before this report was filed.
