Imo State – Rev’d Fr John Ubaechu, a Catholic priest, was kidnapped Sunday evening while traveling to an annual retreat. He serves as the parish priest of Holy Family Catholic Church in the Izombe community. The abduction occurred along Ejemekwuru Road.
Community in Shock, Prayers Offered
Rev’d Fr Patrick Mbamah, secretary of the Archdiocesan Chancellor, confirmed the news and urged prayers for the priest’s quick and safe return. Benedict Ihejirika, a relative and parishioner of Fr. Ubaechu, condemned the kidnapping, stating it has plunged the parish into mourning.
The Imo State Police Command confirmed the incident. Spokesperson Henry Okoye assured the public that officers are actively searching the area to rescue him and apprehend the suspects. The Catholic community and concerned citizens are praying for Rev’d Fr John Ubaechu’s safe return.
