CBN Disowns Fake Circular on New Banknotes

Abuja – The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) stated a circulating document about new N5,000 and N10,000 notes is false. The bank publicly addressed this widely shared CBN fake circular using its official communication channels.

False Claims Addressed

The CBN declared the CBN fake circular “fake” via its official X account (formerly Twitter). The bank confirmed the document did not come from the CBN. The false information claimed new banknotes would enter circulation on May 1. It wrongly suggested these notes would reduce cash handling expenses.

Rely on Official Information

The CBN advises the public to verify information using only its official website and confirmed channels. This warning is important after previous currency redesign challenges and counterfeit concerns in 2023. The bank stressed it works with security agencies to ensure currency integrity and fight misinformation like this CBN fake circular.
