College Student Murdered; Son of Kwara Cleric Arrested

Ilorin, Kwara State – Police arrested the son of a prominent Islamic cleric in connection with the murdered of a Kwara State College of Education student. Yetunde Lawal, a final-year student, was reported missing on February 10, 2025.

Lawal disappeared after attending a naming ceremony. Her father, Ibrahim Lawal, reported her missing to the Oja-Oba police division on February 11. Police tracked Lawal’s phone, leading them to the suspect in the Ofa garage area of Ilorin.

The suspect initially denied knowing Lawal’s location. He later stated she died from an asthma attack at his residence. Police, however, discovered Lawal’s dismembered body in a bowl at the scene. The suspect stated he met the murdered, student on Facebook.

Kwara State Police Command spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the murdered. “The command is aware of the gruesome killing of one Miss Yetunde H. Lawal,” she stated.

The suspect is now at police headquarters. Police continue to investigate and will release more information later.
