Council Chairman Killed in Osun Amidst APC-PDP Clash

A violent confrontation between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ikire, Osun State, resulted in the death of a council chairman, Mr. Remi Abass, on 17th February 202.Abass, who was reportedly reinstated, was killed at the Irewole Local Government Secretariat.

Witnesses state that Abass, along with other previously sacked council officials, attempted to regain control of their offices. They were met by armed individuals, alleged to be affiliated with the PDP, who opened fire. A witness stated, “The thugs came…wielding guns. They deliberately targeted the council chairman.”

The APC and PDP are blaming each other for the violence. Mr. Soji Ajeigbe, Osun State Commissioner for Protocol and Government Affairs, claimed that two PDP members were killed by APC-affiliated gunmen, and that six others were injured.

Osun State Police spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident. Police are investigating the incident.
