Customs Seizure in Bauchi: N110m Smuggled Goods Nabbed

BAUCHI – The Nigeria Customs Service has dealt a major blow to smugglers in Bauchi. The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘D’ announced a huge Customs seizure in Bauchi, with contraband valued over N110 million. Comptroller Abubakar Umar revealed this success at a press briefing Tuesday. This operation shows the Customs’ strong stand against illegal trade.

The impressive haul of smuggled goods in Nigeria includes 11,200 litres of petrol in 448 jerry cans. Officers also intercepted 192 bales of second-hand clothes, 140 cartons of foreign spaghetti, and 125 pairs of military-style boots. Furthermore, 47 bags of foreign parboiled rice and 9.4 kilograms of endangered pangolin scales were seized. “The total value of all these seized items is One Hundred and Ten Million, Four Hundred and Ninety Nine Thousand, Three Hundred and Fifty Two Naira,” Umar confirmed.

Customs Acts Within Law, Boosts Collaboration

Comptroller Umar stressed that all FOU Zone D Customs operations strictly follow the law. “Our officers act according to the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, especially sections 226 and 245,” he stated. This commitment ensures lawful enforcement.

The seized pangolin scales, a critical wildlife protection issue, will be given to the correct environmental agency. The large quantity of intercepted fuel will be sold publicly. All money from this sale will go into the Federation Account. Umar praised his team’s “intensified patrols, intelligence-led actions, and true professionalism” for the successful Customs seizure in Bauchi.

No Escape for Smugglers, Customs Warns

The unit’s success in fighting smuggled goods in Nigeria is also due to teamwork. “Our anti-smuggling work is stronger because we share intelligence with other security and government agencies,” Umar explained. He sent a clear message to those involved in illegal trade: “There will be no hiding place for smugglers.” Nigeria Customs Service Zone ‘D’ operates across nine states, including Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, and Gombe.
