Deadly Flood Kills 21 In Mokwa, Niger State 

MOKWA, Niger State – A deadly flood hit the town of Mokwa in Niger State on Thursday. This flood left many people dead and missing. At least 21 people feared dead. 10 others are missing.

The flood happened during a very heavy rain. The rain lasted several hours. The water submerged over 50 residential houses. It also washed them away.

Abullahi Baba-Arah spoke about the incident. He is the Director General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA). He stated: “The incident occurred last night. It was during a very strong rain that lasted several hours.”

Flood Casualties and Damage Details

The NSEMA took action. They worked with Mokwa Local Government officials. Volunteers also helped. They did a search and rescue operation.

Baba-Arah provided updated numbers. “At present, three survivors are getting treatment at the Mokwa General Hospital. They are a woman and her two children. They have wounds and shock. 21 corpses have so far been recovered. Over 10 persons are still missing.”

Over 50 houses were submerged or washed away by the water.

Search and Rescue Efforts Continue

The search and rescue operation is ongoing now. Efforts focus on finding the missing people. They also focus on helping people affected by the flood.

The NSEMA response shows the disaster is severe. The affected communities need continued help.
