Death of Nigerian Content Moderator: Outrage in Kenya

Nairobi – The death of a Nigerian content moderator in Kenya has sparked calls for an investigation. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), wants answers. Ladi Olubunmi worked for Teleperformance, a social media company. She was found dead in her apartment last week.

Disturbing Details

Olubunmi’s death is unsettling. Reports say her body was found three days after she died. She was found after she did not go to work. Some of Olubunmi’s coworkers claim Teleperformance denied her requests to travel to Nigeria.

Gabriel Odu of NiDCOM confirmed that Dabiri-Erewa wants better labor laws to protect Nigerians overseas. Dabiri-Erewa said strong laws are needed “to protect the rights and well-being of Nigerians employed abroad.” These laws would ensure support and monitoring.

NiDCOM Demands Justice

Dabiri-Erewa offered condolences to Olubunmi’s family. She promised a full investigation. NiDCOM is working with the Nigerian High Commission in Kenya. She urged Nigerians in Kenya to stay calm. She also advised job seekers to be careful. They should work with good firms and know their rights.

This is not the first incident. In July 2021, two other Nigerians died in Kenya under suspicious conditions. This shows a troubling pattern.
