Ebenezer Obey Shuts Down Viral Death Rumour Himself

Lagos – Juju music legend Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi has personally stepped forward to silence the distressing death rumour that circulated widely across social media on Monday, April 21, 2025. The 83-year-old music icon assured fans he is alive, strong, and in good health.

Obey Sings Away the Fake News

In a direct response via video on Tuesday morning, April 22, 2025, the man known as the Chief Commander tackled the misinformation head-on, even incorporating a song.

“Hello, my name is Professor Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi,” he began, before singing a defiant tune against the falsehoods in Yoruba, English, and Pidgin.

He then stated clearly: “It is fake news… claiming that I, Evangelist Obey, have passed on to glory. It is a lie. I am alive.” His message aimed to quickly stop the spread of the unfounded death rumour.

Assistant Also Quashed the Death Rumour

Concerned fans had already begun posting tributes Monday evening when the death rumour initially surfaced. However, Obey’s personal assistant, Tope Olukole, swiftly moved to correct the record during an interview with TVC that same evening.

“Let’s set the record straight: Ebenezer Obey-Fabiyi is alive and thriving!” Olukole affirmed. He mentioned the musician had recently attended a family celebration, adding, “Rumours of his passing are baseless and entirely unfounded.”

This isn’t the first time the beloved musician has been targeted by such false reports. Obey himself acknowledged that similar rumours have cropped up before. This latest incident came just a month after he celebrated his 83rd birthday, proving his vitality as he continues to be active in his community and family life. He expressed thanks for the outpouring of concern from fans who reached out.
